The Kite Runner Author
The Kite Runner book is written by Afghan-American novelist Khaled Hosseini, who is born in Kabul, Afghanistan but later moved to the United States in the 1980s.
Khaled Hosseini is best known for his book The Kite Runner which make him immensely popular, some other books from him are A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed.
He is also doing noble work by running a nonprofit trust called The Khaled Hosseini Foundation which helps Afghani people.
The Kite Runner Summary
The Kite Runner shares the story of two boys who are set in a town in Afghanistan where Hassan and Amir live and are raised by the same nurse after the death of Amir’s mother while Hassan’s mother simply abandoned him.
Hassan and Amir are very close to each other like real brothers even though belonging to different communities. Hassan belongs to Shia whereas Amir belongs to the Sunni community.
Well, Amir is a wealthy boy due to his father who is also referred to as Baba a very renowned man who loves both equally because Hassan’s father used to work as a servant under Amir’s father.
Their characters are widely different as Hassan is a true and loyal friend but illiterate, he is the best kite runner in his town whereas Amir is an egoistic boy who became a writer at an early age.
Hassan is a pure soul who is always there to help him like a brother, standing for him every time when Amir gets in trouble.
Now Amir needs Hassan’s assistance as he wants to win the Kite-Fighting Tournament to make Baba proud and achieve his praise. This tournament was conducted in their town, and with Hassan’s help, Amir won that tournament too.
But Amir always tries to humiliate Hassan, he plants his watch and some birthday money under his mattress thinking that Baba will leave him but Hassan falsely confesses and is forgiven by Baba.
Their happiness won’t stay long as Afghanistan is going through a devastation and violence phase after the Russian invasion along with the Taliban spreading legs and taking control of everything.
When Hassan needs it most, Amir betrayed him and flees to America leaving his closest friend who is always there to help and protect him like his own brother.
When Amir realizes this, he returned to Kabul after 26 years seeking redemption and peace, leaving his comfortable life in America, he deeply repents and not being able to sleep peacefully during those years.
