Everything I Never Told You book depicts the story in the 1970s when a Chinese American Family named James and Marilyn lives in a small town in Ohio.
The couple has three children, a boy Nathan who is the eldest, Hannah, and a beautiful daughter named Lydia who is just 16 years old and studies in a school where she is quite lonely, and has no friends, still is very talented and doing brilliantly there.
Lydia only used to love to talk with a neighbor boy named Jack who helped Lydia through a lot of things, and even taught her car drive.
Her parents are well determined toward Lydia as they think she will pursue the dream on her own and take them out in their bad phase of life.
But things do not always go according to our perception, On May 3, 1977, Lydia was missing for a couple of days, her mother thought she would be kidnapped whereas her brother Nathan suspects directly to his neighbor Jack.
But it shocked everyone when her body was found in a nearby lake after several days.
The story takes back to us a little time in the 1950s when Marilyn was in college and have a dream of becoming a doctor, her dream fall down when she started an affair with her professor named James Lee who is her future husband in the story.
Marilyn started to project her lost dream onto Lydia, also she is also strict toward Lydia forcing her to sign up for hard classes and enter science fairs. Lydia accepts everything as she wants to please her mother.
After being pressurized, Lydia lied to her parents about her friends in school but in reality, she is actually alone and has no friends in school.
Now the story moved back to the day when Lydia was missing, we come to know the glimpse of secrets associated with Jack and Nathan whom she loved most.
